Our comprehensive curriculum blends theory and practice to provide systematic teaching for self-development rooted in the rich tradition of yoga and combined with Vagabond Temple’s unique approach of yogic mindful living. Through this training, you will not only deepen your understanding of spiritual principles but also cultivate a profound connection with your essence, guiding you toward a life of greater clarity, purpose, and fulfillment.

Main Asana Styles:

  • Hatha Yoga: Our primary asana practice style is Hatha Yoga, influenced by Iyengar principles, emphasizing precise alignment to achieve postural perfection and profound awareness of our inner selves. In this practice, we move slowly and deliberately, holding poses for extended durations to cultivate strength, flexibility, and awareness.
  • Kundalini Yoga: An energizing practice designed to awaken and harness latent energy within. Kundalini Yoga combines rhythmic movements, specific breathing techniques, mantra chanting, and meditation to balance the body’s energy centers (chakras) and reach heightened states of consciousness.
  • Yin Yoga: A gentle and meditative yoga style that focuses on passive stretching and sustained postures. It targets deep connective tissues, enhancing flexibility and mobility while promoting mindfulness and relaxation. Yin Yoga is a powerful tool for stress reduction and inner tranquility.

Practices:

Asana: Cultivate a strong foundation in the practice of asanas.

  • Essential poses across various categories of asana practice, beginning with poses suitable for beginners and intermediates. For those who are proficient, advanced poses are included. These encompass standing poses, forward and backward bends, twists, inversions, Surya Namaskar, and more.
  • Develop a profound understanding of how different asanas influence various energetic channels and centers within the body.

Pranayama: Develop a strong and progressive pranayama practice to enhance both physical health and awareness of subtle energies. 

  • Techniques encompass deep breathing, fast breathing, alternate nostril breathing (anuloma Viloma), Surya Bhedan (Right Nostril breathing), Bhramari (Humming Bee Pranayama), Shitali, Sitkari (Cooling Pranayama), and specialized practices for addressing mental-emotional issues.

Meditation: Engaging in diverse meditation practices from yogic and Buddhist traditions.

  • Practices include guided meditation, mantra, visualization, yoga nidra, breath awareness meditation, mental noting, and more.
  • Cultivating inner silence, exploring the role of the witness, and gaining insights into the self, conditioning, and inner forces that takes you away from your inner essence.

Kriyas/Cleansing Processes: Purifying the body and mind through Hatha and Kundalini yoga cleansing techniques.

  • Hatha Yoga cleansing techniques like Neti (nasal cleansing), Kapalabhati (breath purification), morning cleansing, and Trataka (gazing meditation).
  • Kundalini yoga kriyas for detoxification and the release of mental and emotional blockages..

  • Bodha (Liberation) and Bogha (Healing): These Tantric concepts highlight the dual aspects of spiritual evolution. Emphasizing both the pursuit of liberation form suffering and self-realization and the importance of experiencing joy and fulfillment in life through healing and self-care.
  • Three conditions for advancing on the path and living harmoniously:
    • Reducing toxins: By eliminating physical and mental impurities through diet, lifestyle choices, and mindfulness, we create a conducive environment for spiritual growth.
    • Balancing energy: Through practices like pranayama (breath control) and meditation, we harmonize the body’s energy flow, fostering vitality, inner power, and emotional stability.
    • Cultivating witnessing consciousness: Developing the ability to observe our thoughts, emotions, and actions without attachment or judgment allows us to gain insight into our true nature and move towards inner peace.

  • Practicing Yama for mental health: Yama encompasses moral and ethical guidelines that govern our interactions with ourselves and others, promoting mental well-being and fostering harmonious relationships in alignment with higher values and universal vibrational laws, thereby eliminating inner conflicts and promoting peace of mind.
  • Pratyahara and the art of relaxation, grounding, and centering: Pratyahara involves withdrawing the senses from external stimuli, facilitating inner peace and emotional stability. Grounding and centering practices anchor us in the present moment, fostering a sense of stability and calm amidst life’s challenges.
  • Purity, detox, and nutrition principles according to Ayurveda: Ayurveda offers guidelines for maintaining physical and mental purity through practices such as cleansing rituals, dietary recommendations, and lifestyle modifications tailored to individual constitution and needs.
  • Daily routine for yogic mindful living according to Yoga and Ayurveda: Establishing a daily routine that fosters balance, vitality, and overall well-being in alignment with the principles of Yoga and Ayurveda.

Establishing the ability to lead yoga classes professionally, confidently, effectively, and compassionately.

  • Energetic Principles: Exploring the body’s energetic anatomy in different traditions like Hatha Yoga Pradipika, traditional Tantra teachings, and modern perspectives, and the primary keys to working with our energy.
  • The Five Koshas: The five layers of existence representing the different dimensions of our being.  Each Kosha represents a different aspect of the human experience, from the physical body to the blissful essence beyond the mind.
  • Ida and Pingala Nadis: Within the realm of subtle energy anatomy lies the intricate network of Nadis, with a particular focus on Ida and Pingala channels. The harmonization of these channels plays a crucial role in regulating the nervous system, fostering a delicate balance between activity and relaxation. This equilibrium leads to a profound sense of inner harmony and enhanced overall well-being.
  • Sushumna Nadi and Kundalini Preparation: The central energy channel and techniques to prepare for the awakening of dormant energy, laying the foundation for potential spiritual growth.
  • Awakening Kundalini Energy: A potent force residing within every individual of vitality, creativity, and spiritual insight, leading to higher states of consciousness and self-realization.

  • The Three Poisons: Ignorance, attachment, and aversion—the root causes of suffering in Buddhism and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Understand how these mental-emotional states contribute to personal challenges and learn strategies to overcome them.
  • Emotional Intelligence:  Techniques to free yourself from negative mental patterns such as anger, criticism, laziness, and insecurity. Drawing from the Buddhist text “The Way of the Bodhisattva.”
  • Samskaras and Mental Conditioning: Samskaras are psychological conditioning shaped by past experiences. Explore methods to break free from the influence of past conditioning and cultivate a more liberated mindset.
  • Karma Yoga: The path of selfless action outlined in the Bhagavad Gita. Taking pure actions leads to spiritual liberation, ego dissolution, and the cultivation of virtues like humility and compassion.
  • The Four Immeasurables: Qualities of emotional intelligence according to Buddhist teachings, including loving-kindness, compassion, and gratitude. These virtues contribute to personal growth and well-being.
  • Bhakti Yoga: The path of unconditional love and devotion. Cultivating love and intimacy with the world can purify emotions and deepen spiritual connection.
  • Santosha and Finding Contentment: Santosha contentment is a part of the personal disciplines outlined in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Learn techniques for finding contentment within yourself and your life, transcending the illusion of happiness.

Mind Module:

  •  Authentic Spiritual Practice: Core principles of authentic spiritual practice according to Patanjali’s teachings and their significance in attaining liberation. Insights into the principles guiding spiritual evolution and inner liberation, emphasizing foundational aspects of self-awareness and growth.
  • Mastering the Mind: Analyzing the nature of the mind and strategies for overcoming its afflictions to cultivate a positive and supportive mindset.
  • Cultivating Witness Consciousness:  The state of observing thoughts, emotions, and experiences without attachment or identification, allowing for greater clarity, insight, and understanding of oneself and the world.
  • The Three Levels of Mind Training in Raja Yoga:  Comprehensive spiritual path outlined by Patanjali that emphasizes mental and emotional mastery through practices such as Dharna (concentration), Dyana (meditation), and Samadhi (liberation).
  • Bhāvanā in Buddhism: The practice of cultivating specific mental qualities such as Samatha (tranquility), Vipassanā (insight), and Trekchö (cutting through) designed to transform the state of mind and promote positive qualities such as mindfulness, compassion, and wisdom.
  • The Four Levels of Mindful Contemplation:  Progressively deepening awareness of different aspects of one’s experience: mindfulness of the body, feelings, thoughts, and the concept of mindfulness itself. This practice fosters present-moment awareness, clarity, and insight into the nature of reality and the workings of the mind.
  • Practical Meditation Practices:  Various meditation techniques from ancient and modern traditions, including active meditation, guided meditation, contemplation, visualization, metta, and their respective benefits.
  • Mantra and Sound Science: The art of sacred sounds and the potential of mantras and sound vibrations in healing, elevating energy levels, and expanding consciousness.
  • Niyama Svadhyaya: The practice of self-study as part of the Niyama involves introspection and self-reflection, fostering a deeper understanding of oneself and one’s inner workings.
  • Niyama Tapas:  The practice of discipline and commitment to spiritual growth and self-improvement. It involves cultivating inner strength, perseverance, and determination to overcome obstacles on the path of self-realization. Through Tapas (heat), individuals develop resilience, willpower, and the ability to maintain focus and dedication to their spiritual practices.
